Frequently asked

How do I start a match from the watch?

Open Pickleball Tracker on your Apple Watch. Choose Singles or Doubles, confirm whether you hit with your Right or Left hand, then tap Start & Record. Wear the watch on your paddle hand; that is the wrist the shot detector listens to.

During play, tap +1 under a side when it scores and Undo if you mis-tap. When you are done, tap End Match. The score and recording are saved and sync to your iPhone the next time both devices are nearby.

You can also start a session from the iPhone app with Start on Apple Watch; the watch takes over from there.

Why is shot detection marked "beta"? Why did it miss or over-count?

Shot detection reads accelerometer and gyroscope data from your wrist and classifies each swing as a dink, drive, volley, serve, drop, lob or smash. It is still being tuned against real matches, so it is honest to call it beta: a soft dink can be missed, a fake or a shadow swing can be counted, and a hard volley can occasionally be labelled a drive.

For the best results, wear the watch snugly on your paddle hand, set the correct hand in setup, and avoid waving the paddle around between points. Scores, duration, heart rate and calories are not affected by detection accuracy.

How do doubles score calls like "0-0-2" work?

In pickleball the score is called server first: the serving team's score, then the receiving team's score. In doubles a third number is added for which server on that team is serving, 1 or 2.

Every game starts at 0-0-2 because the first-serving team only gets one server on the opening turn, so that server is treated as "2". The watch shows the score exactly this way, so what is on your wrist matches what is being called on court. Match results in your history are shown you-first, so you can read your own result at a glance.

How do I switch between mph and km/h?

On your iPhone, open the Profile tab, then under General choose Swing Speed and pick mph or km/h. The setting applies to your Apple Watch too, and to share cards.

How do I delete my data?

Open the Profile tab on your iPhone and, under Data, tap Clear All Matches. This permanently deletes every saved match and session on both your iPhone and Apple Watch.

Workouts the app has already written to Apple Health are kept; remove them in the Health app if you want them gone too. All app data lives only on your devices, so there is nothing to delete on our side. See the privacy policy for details.

Which devices are supported?

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later and an Apple Watch running watchOS 10 or later, paired together. The watch records the match; the iPhone shows your history and stats. Heart rate and calorie tracking use the sensors on the watch through Apple Health.

My match is not showing on the iPhone.

Make sure the match was ended on the watch with End Match, then bring the watch and iPhone close together and open the iPhone app. Syncing uses Apple's WatchConnectivity and can take a moment after a long match. If it still does not appear, confirm both apps are up to date and that the watch is paired with this iPhone.
